DIY Series: Living Room Edition

Per your requests, our first DIY projects today will be starting in our living room area! These are all super fun to spruce up any room; and you know us everyday house wives are always keeping it budget friendly too!

Our first project might surprise you on just how cheap it really is! There are tons of links to different ideas to decorate with these materials (listed below). I chose to go with a starburst look so I could make a few and fill the wall. I love the way it turned out! It does become quite the tedious project but if you do just a little at a time, your wall will be filled up before you know it!

Living Room Wall Decor
• paper towel rolls/toilet paper rolls
• hot glue
• scissors
• button – for the middle

Directions – Flatten your toilet paper roll or paper towel roll, I went with both because each were a different color so it gave them a neat contrast. Although, you could just spray paint it! Then cut into strips, maybe a 1/2 inch wide. Once you have enough to start glueing together, glue away into the shape of a flower. Don’t forget to add your button on there for the extra touch! 😉

Essential Oil Diffuser
• old glass bottle (I found mine at goodwill for a dollar)
• bamboo sticks
• water
• rubbing alcohol
• essential oil – of your choice
• citrus peels – orange, grapefruit etc.
• fresh herb – rosemary, mint etc.

Directions – After acquiring your bottle, fill three parts water to one part rubbing alcohol. Don’t ask me why you are supposed to use the rubbing alcohol but every recipe I saw people used it. Next, put in your essential oil; maybe 10 to 20 drops. Then, put in your citrus peels as well as fresh herbs. Finally, put in your bamboo sticks to diffuse that fresh clean smell! What I love about this is, you aren’t putting harsh chemicals into your home. Plus they look nice, so why not?!

Mantle Decor
• old wine bottle
• twine
• filler (I used brown crinkle paper confetti)
• hot glue

Directions – First, enjoy your wine! Next, clean the bottle and let dry. Starting from the bottom, hot glue twine all the way up to desired point. Then, fill with your decor of choice (confetti, rocks). Finally, pop your cork back into the top and voilà!

Stay tuned in for next week! We will be following our DIY series right into the kitchen! I can’t wait to see everyone’s final projects! Happy Wednesday! ❤️

Verse of the Week 04•26•15

Philippians 3:12-13

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.

The goal here, Apostle Paul was trying to convey, was to be Christ-Like; and to always strive for that goal. Psalms 91 reminds us we must stay living in Him and remain the same both during the good and bad times. It’s not always easy but it’s always rewarding! Happy Sunday! ❤️

Everything A Mom Is❤️

The definition of the word, “Mother,” per a few resources are as follows;

1 – (n) a woman in relation to a child or children to whom she has given birth (v) bring up (a child) with care and affection, give birth to

2 – one’s female parent

3 – the woman who loves you unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself, and the one who you can always count on above everyone else

4 – one person who does the work of twenty for free

(that last one got me 😂)

These are people’s legitimate definitions of the word “Mother.” While all these things are true, I believe they are so much more! Moms have such an impact on the world from our title alone. We have the privelage of being some of the most powerful influences. We influence everyone, literally. Ya didn’t get to where you are today without your momma! I do love the fact that the first definition described a mom as not just the one who gave birth. I believe parental figures in life are just as well important and loved. I wanted to share today what I thought should be in the synonym category of, “Mother.”

A mom is a homemaker, a doctor, a maid, a chef, a tailor, a personal stylist, a comforter, a teacher, a mentor, a role model, a financier, a family budgeter, a couponer, a vacation trip planner, a human gps, an expert multi-tasker, a professional book reader (we’ve even memorized your books so when you’re holding them upside down, we still know what to say 😄), a stay up late’er, a wake up early’er, a worrier, a prayer, and a believer (because when we saw your precious faces, we knew Angels were real 😇).

A mom is something so special that we often times take for granted. As my favorite little kid president says it, MOM upside down is WOW! So, keep on keepin on mommas! We are making a difference. Stay tuned in, the next three weeks we will be starting a super fun 3 week DIY series. Y’all have a choice of doing the living room, kitchen, or gardening area first. Which one to you want to see?! Leave your thoughts in the comments!

{Proverbs 1:8-9 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.}

{Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.}

Verse of the Week 04•19•15

Proverbs 2:1

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning you ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.

Have a great week ladies! Stay tuned in for Wednesday. Happy Sunday! ❤️❤️

DIY Beauty Products💋

It’s practically non debatable the best part of a long day is a nice relaxing shower and the cleanliness feeling afterwards. Why not add a few little tricks in their to make your daily beautifying routine even lovelier?! I love to make my own “beauty products” because they’re pretty awesome and they’re pretty cheap!

Body Scrub
• coffee grounds
• honey
• brown sugar
• coconut or olive oil
I don’t have an exact measure for each ingredient. Just combine it all in there a little bit at a time until it comes into the consistency that you prefer. You can even recycle your leftover coffee grounds from your old morning pot (just make sure to ring out the water)! Coffee is high in caffeine (obviously) making it a great cellulite reducer. In fact, this has taken off in the fitness industry as a top selling product. Little do they know, we’re making it at home! 😉 & yes, my scrub is in an old chili jar! 😄

Magic P(L)otion
• coconut oil
• essential oil – a couple drops of your favorite scent
Coconut oil is a little expensive so I don’t just rub this all over. Although, you can and some people do! It’s great for moisturizing AND healing rough skin; ideal for heels and elbows!

You can purchase coconut oil at a great price below by simply clicking on the picture!

Pearly Whites
• hydrogen peroxide/listerine
• baking soda/water
Every morning/night rinse your mouth with half hydrogen peroxide, half listerine. Continue with brushing your teeth (I use Colgate Optic White). I’ve heard of people even making their own toothpaste but I’m still a little skeptical of that! 🙈 If you would like to be brave, there is a link below to check out a DIY recipe. Lastly, mix baking soda and water until it comes into a paste and brush teeth (I use an old baby food jar for this part). Don’t forget to floss somewhere in there! This has all made a big difference for me. Document your teeth whitening journey with pictures! 😁

This last recipe I have yet to try. So, if any of you get around to it before I do let me know how it turns out!

• 1 part coconut oil
• 1 part pure beeswax
• essential oil – optional

Click the link below for directions!

I hope you ladies all have a fabulous week/weekend! Leave your thoughts in the comments! Stay tuned in for next week, we will be discussing everything a mom is!

Verse of the Week 04•12•15

Isaiah 33:2

“Oh Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.”

{Isaiah was a very important prophet of the Old Testament. Many prophecies have been foretold through Isaiah that we are continuing to see today. The most important being the coming of Jesus Christ.}

I love our verse this week. I think it’s so important for us to be reminded that without Him, our days are hardly bearable. Although with Him, we can conquer all of our days. Happy Sunday! ❤️

For anyone passing through today who doesn’t know, grief is a topic that I’m all too familiar with. I was 14 when my mom passed away. As her 6 year death anniversary approaches us here in May, I thought I could touch on this subject very close to my heart.

I remember looking at my mom after the doctors had taken away the life support just waiting for a miracle to happen, for her to miraculously wake up. I don’t remember how long I sat there staring until my brother looked at me and said, “mere, you don’t have to keep looking.” I know what it feels like to be lost, empty, and hopeless.

People always said to me that it would take time to feel normal again. After about 2 years I was thinking how much time is it gonna take? There I was still hurting, broken, and so confused. After those two years I was still in a stage of denial trying to pretend nothing happened. There were two important things people failed to mention to me. Time. Well, how much time? Just now, 6 years later, I have finished grieving. At the time, I thought two years was going to be enough but those two years had just gotten me started. It will take a LONG time. Secondly, what is normal? Your old normal is now gone. However, you will create a new normal and become comfortable in that.

Another thing people always said to me was it will get better. I can’t say that I really like or even believe this statement. It’s never gotten better; what’s happened to me or what ever circumstance your going through is absolutely horrible. I can say though that it has gotten easier. It’s gotten easier to live with. It’s gotten easier to walk by a picture, actually look at it, and not break down. It’s gotten easier to talk about. It’s gotten easier to open up old cards. It’s gotten easier to listen to our old songs. It’s gotten easier to do things alone that we used to do together. But the situation better? Absolutely not.

Grieving is essential; you have to go through it to get through it. You can’t live like it never happened or it won’t ever get better. Another thing that you have to remember is that everyday of your life you have grieved. You have remembered and you have cried. Everywhere you go reminds you of that person. Like we said earlier, you have been learning to live with it. Know that YOU will remind others (uncles, aunts, close friends) of your loved one. They have not grieved and you spark their memories. While it’s difficult to keep being reminded, know that it does get easier.

There is hope at the end of the day. I know where my mom is and I know where I’m going. In that, we can all have promise.

{Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for you souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”}

When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

Stay tuned friends! Next week we will be discussing DIY beauty products! Have a fab Wednesday!
