Post Baby Bods

The phrase I’ve heard time and time again, “I’ve had kids, I can’t look good anymore,” really gets under my skin. This is one of the most untrue statements. It’s an excuse not a reason. They should say, “I’ve had kids but I worked really hard to get back to my old self!” Guess what you have to do to achieve this goal?! No crazy tricks, no pills and no diet plans. It’s work out everyday and eat healthy! I’m not saying you can’t splurge on a piece of apple pie every now and then. I’m just saying stay active and eat right! There’s an insane amount of pins on Pinterest for those! Use your imagination πŸ˜‰ or Pinterest’s imagination! I like hers better anyway.

Workout everyday! Yoga is one of my favorite workouts. Relaxing and burning calories at the same time?! Yes Lord πŸ™Œ You have to mix it up though, cardio and strength training; not one or the other. It won’t happen over night; slowly but surely you will see your old self coming back together! Don’t have the money or time to go to the gym? Me either! I get most of my workouts from Pinterest but I also like fitnessblender.com #shoutout! I know that it’s hard but once you get into a daily routine it’ll just become another part of your day! Exercise is the most under used antidepressant! It just makes you feel good.

“Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.” – Elle Woods

Thank you Ms. Woods for that very insightful piece of wisdom. πŸ˜„β¬†οΈ

You have to eat right! Once you get the hang of it your body won’t want go back. Even the hubby can’t eat too many sweets anymore cause he’s so used to eating well! This has even been proven to improve your mood! Drink lots of water, at least 3 glasses per day! I always just keep my tumbler filled up (monogrammed of course). Im gonna share a few recipes below that are real favs around our house!

For the kiddos, one thing I do with Aubrey is no juice. Babes can get so addicted to sugar. They have enough in their diet, they don’t need it in their drinks! So, we are a water only house. (Don’t think I’m being mean, all I drink is water too!) Also, fresh fruits and veggies! And whole grain snacks! She is pretty picky so I know how that goes but there are ways to pack the nutrients in! Toddler muffins have been a big hit around here! Recipe below. Another thing I’ve found with Aubrey is her taste buds change constantly! One day she’ll hate something and the next day she’ll love it. So, just try to keep mixing things up.

God gave us these bodies to live in, so let’s take care of them!

{1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.}

Keep it healthy Mommas!

Love, your every day house wife!

Stay tuned in for next week, we will be discussing how to keep these crazy houses of ours clean!

Recipes:

Chicken Salad Stuffed Peppers
β€’ 1 lb chicken breast
β€’ two stalks of celery
β€’ 1 hard boiled egg
β€’ 3 or 4 pickle spears (we like claussen dill)
β€’ 1/3 cup of mayo
β€’ salt and pepper to taste
β€’ 3 yellow peppers

Directions – Cut up your chicken breasts into chunks and boil until cooked all the way through. Boil your egg. If you have a food processor, it really makes things so much easier! Just toss everything in there (excluding your peppers) and blend until done. If not, you might be choppin for a little while. Wash your peppers, cut into halves, and fill with your chicken salad!

This recipe is so easy and delicious! I usually serve it with a side of sliced oranges. πŸ˜‰

Cabbage Steaks w/ Sweet Potato Fries
Cabbage Steaks
β€’ 1 large head of cabbage
β€’ olive oil
β€’ garlic powder
β€’ salt and pepper
Sweet Potato Fries
β€’ 1-2 sweet potatoes
β€’ olive oil
β€’ garlic powder
β€’ salt

Directions – Cabbage: Pre-Heat your oven to 350*. Wash and then slice cabbage into about 1 inch thick slices. Put on greased pan. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for about 35-40 minutes.

Sweet Potato Fries: Wash and then slice into fries. Put on greased pan. Sprinkle with salt and garlic powder. Cook for 10 minutes. Flip them over. Cook for another 10 minutes.

This recipe is also incredibly easy and healthy! These fries are one of Aubrey’s favs! πŸ˜‹

Toddler Muffins
β€’ 1/4 cup of brown sugar
β€’ 1/4 cup of apple sauce
β€’ 2 bananas
β€’ 2 large carrots
β€’ 1 jar of organic butternut squash baby food
β€’ 2 eggs (brown cage free)
β€’ 1 cup of flour
β€’ 1/2 cup oat bran flakes (I used Uncle Sam Toasted Whole Wheat Berry Flakes and Flaxseed – in the breakfast isle)
β€’ 1 tsp baking soda
β€’ 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice (you can make your own with 2 tsps of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of ginger, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp of ground cloves)
β€’ 1/2 tsp of salt

Directions – Preheat oven to 375*. Grease your muffin tin. Put bananas and carrots into food processor and pulse until done. Beat brown sugar and apple sauce in a bowl with mixer. Add bananas, carrots, jar of squash, and eggs to bowl; mix until done. Then add the rest of your dry ingredients. Bake for about 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean!

Aubrey loves these (and so do we 😜)!

Verse of the Week 02β€’22β€’15

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.

{In this passage Jesus is talking about a brother who sins against you. He says that if your brother has sinned against you and won’t listen to you alone regarding his faults, then bring others along with you.}

Although, Jesus was talking about bringing others with you to help in a time of quarrel; I believe this statement also pertains to why being a part of church is so important! We come together to worship Him and ladies, He is so worthy of our worship! He is with us; thank you God for everything! You are our Savior!

Money Probz

First things first, let’s look at what God has to say about money.

{Proverbs 3:9-10 – Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing. And your vats will brim over with new wine.}

{Luke 6:38 – Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.}

{Ecclesiastes 5:10 – Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.}

{Romans 13:8 – Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has followed the law.}

These are just a few of the vast areas where the Bible references money. Don’t be greedy with your money and don’t allow this to become your center focus of all life’s aspects. God has so much more to offer! Try to not get caught up in worldly matters and focus on Him.

{Psalm 37:4 – Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.}

Take a second today to think about the desires of your heart!

Now, here’s my opinion of money. Take it or leave it πŸ˜‰

Some people (my hubby) would like to call me a money hoarder. My motto is always “Save Save Save!” Even when you get a surprise pocket of cash, save it! I know it feels good to go out and buy something new but it feels even better to hear your three months late on truck registration and can pay for the 200 dollar fee without eating ramen for the next month. The phrase we’ve been talking about in our Bible study recently is, “Give first, save second, and live on the rest!” This is incredibly critical. It provides not only structure in our every day lives but also faith and trust in Him to provide in the future. If He can’t trust you with what you already have then why would He provide you with more?

Don’t feel bad about budgeting! Sometimes we can get caught up in guilt because our hubby’s want to go out for dinner or buy a new shirt. But hey guess what? If ya’ll can’t afford it, that’s okay! I’m not saying you can’t go out every now and then but don’t make it habitual.

Invest into 529s for your kids. College! Hello! Also, 401ks, retirement may sound like a long way off but I’m sure it seemed that way to our grandparents and look where they are now! On average, a savings account will make about 2% a year where an investment will make about 7%. That’ll make a big difference over the course of 18+ years!

Another thing we do just as a little something fun is save all the leftover change out of our pockets! You would be surprised how much you can accumulate! Our plan is to give it to Aubrey on her wedding or graduation day. We’ll see where it’ll go when those days come around!

So, there’s my advice for you every day house wives today! Keep on keepin on Mommas!

Stay tuned in for next week, we’ll be talking about these post baby bods!

Verse of the Week 02β€’15β€’15

Ephesians 6:10-12

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against the flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

{Ephesians is one of the letters the apostle Paul wrote while imprisoned. A lot of his writing was encouragement towards others to not stray even in their times of struggle.}

In this chapter, Paul is talking about a spiritual battle; with prayer being the most important weapon! Let’s head out into this week with the full armor of God! I still find myself amazed every day at what He does for me. I challenge you this week to say a single prayer each day. Happy Sunday my friends!

How to Keep Your Faith

Something I’ve always said, “stay strong in Him and He will stay strong in you.” It wasn’t until I started studying The Bible to come to realize this concept is actually on those precious pages! This is so true. If we don’t make any effort towards God, then why would He make any effort towards us? Or an even better question; how could we recognize and give Him the glory for the effort He WAS already making toward us?! God is so amazing! You just have to give Him the chance.

{Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. – John 15:4}

Now, I’m not here to claim this is easy. It takes work, as everything else does. But I promise you it’ll be the best decision you ever made.

First things first; It’s not just a once a week kind of thing. You go to Church on Sunday and then leave like you’ve done your good deed for the week. No, this is a lifestyle. It’s waking up in the morning and thanking God. It’s reading His word, daily. It’s turning on the gospel channel in the morning instead of The View. It’s praying before your every meal and thanking Him again for providing. It’s listening to sermons every chance you get; showers, car rides, cooking. It’s turning to the gospel station on the radio instead of the pop station. It’s bible studys, church gatherings, and tithing. It will start becoming natural to you and your personal relationship with Him will begin to flourish. Our time is now! When we leave this Earth we’ll no longer be living FOR him but rather we’ll finally be living WITH Him! So, start incorporating Him into your life and see what kind of things begin happening!

Sidenote: Daystar is an amazing channel and comes with basic cable! It is also an app, free of charge! Joni table talk is my favorite.

Now, not to get sappy but let’s get sappy.

I’m going to share one thing, as a wife, that has helped tremendously! One of the most inspirational things I’ve ever heard. Everyone who is a regular church attender has heard the expression God first, marriage second, children third. Well, this couldn’t be more true! My husband and I after two years of “honeymoon stage marriage” went through a little bit of a rough patch. We had both hurt each other in our actions and our words. I was disappointed beyond imagining and simply could not understand why what had happened, happened… And then I stumbled across this idea. Our husbands are human and humans make mistakes. But our Heavenly Father is perfect and won’t ever let us down. This is why we everyday house wives are Christs bride first! This eliminates all disappoint in them because we know that they are sinners too! I never thought such a simple concept would change my entire outlook on things, but it has! It helps in so many ways and our marriage has come back stronger than ever. Thank God for forgiveness! Can you forgive your husband today?

Faith doesn’t make things easy but it sure makes things possible!

{Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about the things we cannot see. – Hebrews 11:1}

Love, your every day house wife!

Stay tuned in for next week! We will discuss everyone’s favorite thing, money!

Verse of the Week 2β€’8β€’15

John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

{this is when Jesus was talking to the disciples before they went to the olive grove for Jesus’ arrest and persecution}

While doing a little reading this week, this verse jumped out at me! How amazing is it that once we’ve accepted Christ, these worldly problems we have ultimately don’t matter. Take a minute today and thank Him for saving you!
